Bright, VIC, Australia
We arrived yesterday, December 27th (Oz dates). There are fires on
the Bright side of Mt. Buffalo and you could see the smoke high in the sky as we
came in from Melbourne. But the smoke is quite thin and the fires small, and
there were plenty of cu's over the mountains and over the fires.
The fires continue today but there is no threat from them, and air is reasonably
clear (by 10 AM).
Gilbert says that it has generally been windy for the past few months and it is
windy again today from the southwest. I wonder how this will affect the Bogong
Cup.
Gilbert and I were watching his windsock get beat up this morning with gusty
breezes varying 180 degrees over a few minutes. The report later in the
afternoon was that some hangies flew early in the day with the result of three
broken down tubes, and one broken arm all landing at the regular LZ. Didn't see
any paraglider pilots flying today as it is very windy.
