There has been some discussion of Sport Pilot lately on the Oz
Report. There seem to be quite a few members of the hang gliding community who
are also accredited ultralight pilots, and wish to take advantage of the unique
opportunities allowed by the FAA in earning a Sport Pilot certificate.

I will be in the Tampa area December 14 - December 21, based at Zephyr Hills
airport. I will be offering a weekend Sport Pilot ground school at one of the
flying schools at the airport. It will be intensive - two long days, but
designed to leave participants feeling much readier for both the written and
practical (oral plus flight) tests. We have about a dozen participants signed up
so far, divided between trike and fixed wing pilots. We have space for another
three pilots or so.

I will be doing Sport Pilot check rides in both trikes and fixed wing before and
after the ground school as well. Check rides are quite time intensive, and the
schedule is filling fast. I think we might be able to fit one or possibly two
more pilots in. We'll have an N numbered trike to use (rented from our local
host). If you have a N-numbered Dragonfly with two seats, we can use that too.
