This is how Glauco describes the beginning of the flight, in his own words:

"I took off at 7:25 I believe, but it took me one hour to get the flight really
started. When I finally crossed the "Gameleira" (the infamous initial part of
the flight, when you have to go over the back, usually low, with strong winds
and scarce landing options) I looked at my watch and it was already 8:20. I got
stuck in the second lift session and stayed there for 40 minutes, during a
period where it got blue over the Gameleira, where the clouds were kinda fuzzy.
so I stayed in yoyo mode, going back and forth, until I finally relaxed and
said, it doesn't matter, today it's windy enough that I should just make sure
and not throw the good day away."

As Brazilian pilot Marcelo Silva puts it, "Taking off from a ramp, as compared
to air-tow it's a bit like paddling down a big wave as opposed to be towed-in".

All the paragliders that have done exceptional flights this year have been
towing up from another location, and flying in groups, as there are more than a
100 paraglider pilots.

Glauco took off alone, and flew alone for 11+ hours, adding some valor to his
feat.

According to Glauco the straight line seems to have been 621 Km.

And he has obtained a new World Record Declared Distance, From Tacima to Poranga
Airport, of 616 Km.
