1. Running Update on Windows 8 or 10 for a vario that was built
before August 2014 and never had the communication chip upgraded. Solution a:
Have the chip upgraded at a repair center (see

Solution b: Find a Windows 7 computer, do the update there, and have the chip
upgrade done later (really the only reliable solution, regardless of what you
may read elsewhere).

2. Missing driver. Solution: Install from here:

3. Wrong COM port. The installer can only count to 8. If Windows assigns your
vario a COM port higher than COM8, you must reassign the port. Solution: see
https://www.startech.com/faq/change-com-port-number-windows

4. You are using a cable that was made for charging devices (2 wires), not for
transmitting data (4 wires). There is no way to tell from the outside. Test with
other devices, e.g. older camera, to see if communication works with the cable
in general. Solution part a: Take a hefty pair of scissors, cut the 'wrong'
cable in two pieces of roughly equal length, and throw both pieces in the
garbage. Part b: use a cable of which you know that it transmits data.

5. (6030/Compeo+ only) Update software says all is good, but when you turn the
vario back on, the screen remains blank (actually, you can see the display very
faintly, and turned 90 degrees). Solution a: make sure you go through the whole
startup sequence (OK right after the beep, to confirm language, then wait about
30 seconds). If no success: b. Solution b: go back to V3.38m (from here:
https://www.volirium.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/F6030_V338m.exe), then
to 5.02 again. If no success: see next

6. Other. Solution: Send email to support@volirium.com, best with screen shots from your PC (Alt-PrtScrn is
your friend) showing error messages, and pictures of your vario display showing
unexpected behavior.

The cable is the first thing to check.
