The mountain biking and walking trail on the west side of the
runway has now been opened. It has been mowed twice with a
DR field and bush mower, the nearby trees and vines have been trimmed. It's
not perfect, but it is perfectly rideable.

Are there gopher tortoise holes in the trail? Yes, but you can easily get around
them. Is it sandy? Yes, but John Simon has no problems with his 2.8" tires and I
had an easy ride with my 29 plus tires (3"). The sandy trail doesn't seem to be
soft. Is it noisy? Yes, when you are near highway 33. Is it well marked? Yes,
there are $100 worth of small wire surveyor marking flags marking the trail flags. Pink, orange,
green. Any straight parts? Yes, but mostly twisty. Can you go fast? Only on a
few parts. Where does it start? The northeast end of the wooded area. What side
of the trail are the flags on? The right side if you start from the northwest.
The left side if you start from the southwest. In a very small portion they
switch sides to stay out of a wider two track path. Are there logs to go over? A
couple. Can I take in a mountain bike with 800 mm handle bars? Yup. Can I get on
the trail at other locations? Yup, on the east side. Is there any poison oak or
ivy? Nope. Any bad plants? I pulled almost all the burrs that I could find. None
are near the trail? Are the vines a problem? You'll ride over them in a few
places and the really thin ones might trip you up if you are walking. Many vines
have been cut. Is there a loop? There is a small loop at the beginning which
requires you to go 5 feet past the exit to enter it and then get back on the
main trail. Will I get little branches in my spokes? Perhaps. There are numerous
cuttings next to the trail. What will I see? Big oaks, over hanging branches, a
patch of ferns, many different landscapes. Do I have to duck down? Rarely. How
long does it take? About 20 minutes going at cruising speed with all the twists.
Any snakes? We haven't see any and we spent a lot of time building the trail.
What happens if I lose the trail? Walk or ride out any of the two track roads.
