Don't mess with the man

Elena at CIVL <elenfilon> writes:

CIVL Bureau has taken the decision to suspend Mr Bernardo Medina
Sastre (Colombia) from all CIVL activities for a 5-year period starting March
21, 2018. This means that any competition linked to his name in any way will not
be sanctioned as a FAI Category 2 event and/or ranked in CIVL WPRS. The reasons
for this decision are explained in the article.

This was thoroughly reported earlier in the Oz Report:
http://ozreport.com/22.031.

The CIVL web site states:

Mr Bernardo Medina Sastre requested to sanction another
competition, with the same name but different dates: February 21 to 27. The
application arrived on time with NAC approval and the competition was published
on FAI event calendar as a Cat 2. Exchanges between Mr Bernardo Medina Sastre
and pilots show that Mr Bernardo Medina Sastre intended, in some strange way, to
use the Feb. 21–27 competition to validate the Feb. 10–17 results. (Mr Bernardo
Medina Sastre wrote: ‘The Cup rolnadillo are made on February 10. But we will
send the points dated February 21 to FAI.’)

While this mess was developing and pilots realised that the Cup was not going to
be a Cat 2 with any ranking points, some decided not to participate and asked
for their money back. It was refused. When they insisted, Mr Bernardo Medina
Sastre threatened to report them to the immigration authorities of his country.

When CIVL was asked on the CIVL Info list what was going on and reported on what
it knew, it was the turn of CIVL President to be threatened by Mr Bernardo
Medina Sastre (‘Retract those accusations… in my country they are a crime…
Repair the damage you have done to my good name’).

As registration was approaching, CIVL got lobbied by pilots so the competition
would be ranked, even though not on FAI event calendar. In the end, CIVL Bureau
agreed to rank the results, again ‘under exceptional circumstances’.

Unfortunately, Mr Bernardo Medina Sastre’s attitude has caused a lot of trouble
to pilots and CIVL alike. Mr Bernardo Medina Sastre’s lack of professionalism,
his disrespect for the rules, for the pilots and for CIVL, his unacceptable
threats to pilots and CIVL, have tarnished the image of paragliding competition
at CIVL in general and in Colombia in particular.
