Sport Class is a success
We have been working for years to encourage less experienced
pilots without the top of the line expensive hang gliding equipment to flying in
competition with their friends (and new friends). These pilots always say after
they have attended a competition that they have never learned so much in so
short amount of time. Numerous sport class pilots have gone on to fly in open
class competition (after they decide to purchase topless gliders and sleek
harnesses).
It takes a commitment to encourage sport class pilots and other meet organizers
were never as in favor of it as we have been. They feared that pilots would be
less safe and would hinder the operation of the open class. We have not found
this to be the case.
It looks like the number of sport class pilots that register for the 2016 Big
Spring Nationals will rival those of the number of open class pilots. This is a
very healthy development. We are happy to see sport class succeed. https://airtribune.com/2016-big-spring-nationals/pilots
