I participate in surgical/dental missions (secular) in many third world
countries entirely at my own expense. I have a portable chair, unit, x-ray and
instruments and supplies to do extractions and restorations. Coincidently, the
group I have been going with lately, Aloha Medical Mission (secular) is planning
a surgical/dental mission to Coca, Ecuador Aug. 1-15.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this trip, as I had already planned
a motorcycle tour of Iceland during that time. I'm departing for Quito, Ecuador
next week for my second off-road motorcycle tour there, traveling on gravel
roads through the mountains at altitudes as high as 14,500'. Lots of fun.

Not as much fun as hang gliding, though, but I have reluctantly given that up
for gliders because of bad knees. I fly a Phoenix motor glider here in Hawaii,
and commute inter island, but my love is spending lots of time in the summer in
my trailer at Tehachapi and flying cross country in my ASH-26E self-launcher.
Sometimes, when I encounter a hang glider pilot in the Sierras I have to say
that I feel quite cozy in my cockpit. I never thought I would feel that way

has put me in touch with some dental folks in Valle de Bravo. I plan to do a
dental trip there sometime. Keep (my services) in mind when you are out and
about.

When traveling on these motorcycle tours, I always take along a large supply of
toothbrushes to pass out to the kids. Another thing I have done for decades when
traveling in poor countries is take along a Polaroid camera and lots of film.
Photographs are really appreciated and rarely available to these people.
