I remember so well Sue Gardner saying that the FAA did not in any way wish to negatively impact the hang gliding community, businesses and growth of the sport with their Sport Pilot regulations. I took the first scooter tow on Saturday morning just to test out the wind conditions. I kept my nose down and my hands in the grapevine grip for a good long run, but let the glider come off the ground for a short flight so that Steve could assess the conditions. The sky was full of cummies from noon on. But Steve felt that the sky would be lying, with the north north wind. He said that there would be bullet thermals with lots of sink in between.

Günter Porath nutzte die gute Wetterphase Anfang Mai für einen neuen Deutschen Rekord mit dem Hängegleiter. Am 12.05.2008 umrundete der Deutsche Streckenflugmeister 2006 ein FAI-Dreieck über 263,69 km. Der Rekord wurde bereits vom DHV positiv ausgewertet und an die FAI zur Anerkennung weitergeleitet.
