http://www.artehistoria.com/obrmaestras/videos/909.htm La Montaña Sainte-Victoire será para Cézanne una de sus principales musas, repitiendo su silueta en numerosas ocasiones a lo largo de su vida. En esta imagen de 1882 la montaña ocupa un segundo plano al aparecer al fondo de la composición, encuadrada entre árboles. Las luces del atardecer crean unas tonalidades malvas en las zonas de sombra que recuerdan al Impresionismo. Buena parte de estas vistas están tomadas desde Bellevue, la finca propiedad de Rose, la hermana del artista, situada en el suroeste de Aix. Se trata de imágenes en los que la perspectiva se convierte en la principal protagonista, situando en primer plano los pinos y al fondo la montaña, recortando su majestuosa silueta sobre el cielo. En los últimos años del siglo XIX, Cézanne continúa su dura lucha para conseguir dotar a sus telas de volumen y forma para "convertir el Impresionismo en algo sólido y duradero, como el arte que se conserva en los museos". El color ha sido aplicado de manera fluida y apenas empastada, de manera que se crea el efecto de envolver la perspectiva, utilizando una banda de tonalidades verdes para dirigir nuestra atención hacia los grises, malvas y azules del cielo y la montaña. Con esta obra realizada en 1904, Cézanne se sitúa a un paso del Cubismo al emplear un facetado que más tarde utilizarán Braque y Picasso. La Montaña apenas es perceptible, confundiéndose con el cielo que la rodea, mientras que las construcciones de sus faldas se han convertido en un maremagnum de rápidas pinceladas de diferentes tonalidades con las que se pretende crear formas y volúmenes. La línea ha desaparecido para dejar paso al color.

In this movie my friends Thomas, Wendy and I were driven up, wisked up, if you will, to the base of Mont Sainte Victoire at dusk. It was a magical moment for me and I caught it as best I could. Based on this event, I stayed in Aix the following day and accompanied Christine Boulet, who we just met a few hours earlier, on a tour of plateau of Bibémus which took 4-5 hours of nonstop walking.

La montagne Sainte Victoire (new mix)

Van 15 t/m 18 december 2005 zijn Rob Moonen en ik op pad geweest in Aix-en-Provence. Materiaal verzamelen voor de ode aan Paul Cézanne, maar ook aan les Aixois zelf. Vrijdag 16 december interview ik op één dag 10 personen in het théâtre du Jeu de Paume, een soort van strakke militaire operatie, keurig georganiseerd door een medewerkster van het theater. Een dag later gaan Rob en ik vroeg op pad om de Montagne Sainte Victoire van verschillende kanten vast te leggen. Een van die opnames is in dit filmpje te zien: Rob bestuurt de huurauto en ik film zomaar uit de hand met mijn digitale filmcameraatje de kilometerslange zuidkant van de berg, schokkend en wel. De muziek die je hoort is de demo van de finale van deel 1, waarin de Aix-bewoners vertellen over het karakter van Cézanne. In 2006 heb ik de compositie, die bijna 20 minuten duurt afgemaakt. Omdat er verder geen geld kwam voor dit project ligt alles alweer een paar jaar op de plank. Tom
