Le viaduc de Millau (France)
Contrairement à ce que tout le monde pense, il n'y a AUCUNE sensation de vertige lors de la traversée de ce viaduc (un des plus hauts du monde), d'ailleurs le paysage lui-même est très dur à apercevoir, en tout cas lorsqu'il y a un peu de brume.
Par contre, pour la montée de Béziers (sud de la France) vers le plateau du larzac par l'autoroute (A75) à flanc des Causses, je déconseille le volant aux sensibles, il vaut mieux s'installer confortablement dans un siège passager et regarder ses pieds, il y a quand même quelques endroits pas tristes, très beaux mais si l'on a le vertige...:)
Désolé pour la qualité de la vidéo faite avec un appareil photo numérique ... et pour le chargement très lent de la mémoire tampon!

Millau Viaduct in France, the highest bridge in the world. Designed by Norman Foster (You see his photo with Jacque Chirac in the video) and constructed by French Engineers using steel and concrete in harmony. It has the appearance of a thread running through a set of needles. It is possible here to drive above the clouds.
The Millau Viaduct (French: le Viaduc de Millau) is a large cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the River Tarn near Millau in southern France. Designed by English architect Norman Foster and French bridge engineer Michel Virlogeux, it is the tallest vehicular bridge in the world, with one pier's summit at 343 metres (1,125 ft)?slightly taller than the Eiffel Tower and only 38 m (125 ft) shorter than the Empire State Building. The viaduct is part of the A75-A71 autoroute axis from Paris to Béziers. It was formally dedicated on 14 December 2004 and opened to traffic two days later.

Viaduc de Millau
Ce pont a été construit afin de neutraliser le « bouchon de Millau », il supporte l'autoroute A75 reliant Paris à Béziers. Cette autoroute, sauf le viaduc, a la particularité d'être gratuite.
Chaque été, Millau était un point de passage important pour les parisiens venant passer leurs vacances sur la Côte d'Azur, causant alors des bouchons. On pouvait y passer des heures alors qu'aujourd'hui, il faut un peu plus d'une minute pour traverser le viaduc.
La construction a démarré le 16 octobre 2001 et le viaduc a ouvert le 18 décembre 2004. Les piliers sont en béton armé et le tablier en acier. Son design tout en finesse le rend discret dans le paysage, ce n'est pas une structure imposante.
Retournement de situation :
Les commerces de Millau voyaient ce pont comme un menace pour leur chiffre d'affaires, la ville étant traversée par de nombreux véhicules. Ce pont aurait donc dû les mettrent en difficulté économique. Seulement, voilà que des gens viennent à Millau juste pour voir le plus haut pont du monde. Des entreprises ont même organisés des visites guidées du viaduc !

This bridge was built in order to neutralize "the Millau traffic jam", it's crossing by A75 motorway linking Paris to Béziers. These motorway except viaduct are free.
Every summer Millau was an important passing way for Parisians who spent theirs holidays on the Riviera causing congestion. You could stay for hours in traffic jams when today more than one minute are necessary to cross viaduct.
Construction started on 16th October 2001 and viaduct opened on 18th December 2004. Pylons are in reinforced concrete and roadway are in steel.
Situation reversing:
For Millau shops these bridge was a threaten for their turnover because city are crossed by numerous vehicles. This bridge would have put them in economical difficulties. But many people came to Millau for seeing the world tallest bridge. Some enterprises even organized guided tours of viaduct!
In France, Millau are also famous for its Mc Donald's which was destroyed by José Bové an anti-globalisation activist to protest against americanization and GMO. Around Millau there are messages written on roads or fields by farmers: "no GMO", "roquefort (cheese) not hamburgers" "Mc Do won't pass by my plate"
