Jounieh est une ville côtière du Liban, située à 20 km au nord de Beyrouth, Jounieh s'étale autour d'une belle baie de 4 km sous un promontoire montagneux s'élevant à pic jusquà 550 mètres. Habitée principalement par des chrétiens Maronites, elle fut pendant les événements de 1975-1990 une ville refuge pour une grande partie de cette population.
La baie de Jounieh est connue pour avoir la forme de la lettre "U" de l'alphabet latin. Jounieh a été relié aux secteurs voisins par des routes. Ainsi elle a été relié à Bkirki et au delà sous le gouvernement de Dawud Basha. Elle a été reliée à Ghazir entre 1867 et 1868 en dépit de l'objection des résidents de Ghazir. Une autre route a relié Jounieh au port de Beyrouth sous le gouvernement de Rustum Basha. Au nord, elle a été reliée par la route jusqu'à Batroun sous le gouvernement de Wasa Basha (1883-1892). En 1892, Jounieh a été relié à Beyrouth par l'intermédiaire d'un chemin de fer comportant trois gares dans Jounieh et ses environs : Sarba, Jounieh, et Mu'amilitain à l'extrémité de la ligne, ce qui a facilité le transport des marchandises et des passagers. En 1876, le nombre de magasins a dépassé 300, cinq filatures de soie, trois maisons de repos, un moulin, trois usines de jus, une manufacture de glace artificielle, une banque, la "banque Baghos", et un groupe de petits chantiers de construction de bateaux à voiles.

Jounieh (Arabic ?????, or Junia, ?????) is a Mediterranean coastal city about 15 kilometers north of Beirut, Lebanon. It is known for its seaside resorts and nightclubs, as well as its old stone souk, ferry, and cablecar (le téléphérique), which takes passengers up the mountain to the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa. Above Jounieh, and on the way to Harissa, a small hill named Bkerke (Arabic ?????, or Bkerki), overlooking the Jounieh bay, is the seat of the Patriarch of the Maronite Catholic Church. Its inhabitants are predominantly Maronite and it's thus known to be the largest Maronite city in the world.

Jounieh, nach Wikipedia-Transkription Dsch?niya, arabisch ??????, ist eine Stadt im Libanon. Sie hat zusammen mit ihren Vororten rund 350.000 Einwohner und liegt am nördlichen Rand von Beirut, die Bebauung geht direkt in die der Hauptstadt über.
Jounieh ist eine überwiegend von Christen bewohnte Stadt. Das Kloster Bkerke auf einem Hügel im Osten der Stadt ist der Sitz des Patriarchen der Maronitischen Kirche, der größten christlichen Gruppierung im Libanon. In der Stadt ist außerdem die maronitische Heilig-Geist-Universität ansässig.
