A Divided Friendship; Border Field State Park
Border Field State Park is located at the intersection of Mexico, the United States, and the Pacific Ocean. The existing chain-link fence allows people to communicate face-to-face, and extends into the ocean. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is running rough shod over environmental regulations and local concerns to build a triple wall fence that will cutoff this last remanent of what was once know as Friendship Park. This video shows the beauty and diversity of the park from both sides of the current fence. It also contains interviews with activists and other individuals concerned about the future of this unique and special place.

Wyalusing State Park
Wyalusing State Park sits on bluffs 500 feet above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. Within the park's 2,628 acres you will find hardwood forests, bluffs, springs, waterfalls, and spectacular vistas. You can see ancient Native American effigy mounds and imagine what the French explorers Marquette and Joliet thought about them as they became the first Europeans to set foot here in 1673. There are more than 23 miles of trails for hiking, biking and skiing. More than 100 bird species, including bald eagles, hawks, owls, and various waterfowl, can be observed during the spring and fall migrations. There are 109 family campsites, group tent campsites for 130 and a lodge/dormitory complex for 108 people. Nearby is the Villa Louis Victorian mansion. Across the river is the Effigy Mounds National Monument where you can observe 205 mounds considered as ceremonial and sacred sites by American Indian tribes. Slideshow by John Wanserski.

Point State Park is a Pennsylvania state park on 36 acres (0.15 km²) in Downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA. It is located at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, forming the Ohio River.
Built on land condemned from businesses in the 1950s, the park opened in 1974, when construction was completed on its iconic fountain. Pittsburgh settled on the current design after rejecting an alternative plan for a Point Park Civic Center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
The park also includes the outlines and remains of two of the oldest structures in Pittsburgh, Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne. The Fort Pitt Museum, housed in the Monongahela Bastion of Fort Pitt, commemorates the French and Indian War (1754--1763), in which the area soon to become Pittsburgh was a major battlefield.
Today the park provides recreational space for workers, visitors, and residents in downtown Pittsburgh and also acts as the site for major cultural events in the city, including the Three Rivers Arts Festival and Three Rivers Regatta. The park, a registered National Historic Landmark, is operated by the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks.
The fountain in Point State Park, which sprays water up to 150 feet (46 m) in the air at the head of the Ohio River, draws upon water from the "Wisconsin Glacial Flow", an underground river that passes beneath the park.

Mirror Lake State Park
Mirror Lake was formed by the old mill dam on Dell Creek near Lake Delton in 1860. Dell Creek is within the non-glaciated, or what is known as the driftless area of Wisconsin. Sandstone was formed from river deposits into shallow seas about 500,000,000 years ago, during the Late Cambrian geologic period. The rock outcroppings of Mirror Lake's gorges are formed from weathered sandstone. Over the last 10,000 years Dell Creek cut gorges into the thick, soft sandstone rock. This 2,050 acre park lies within three miles of Wisconsin Dells and draws more than 200,000 visitors a year. The park has many miles of trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and nature viewing. The no-wake lake is ideal for canoeing and kayaking. There are 151 family campsites in three campgrounds, seven walk-in group sites for tents only, an accessible cabin for people with disabilities and a unique rental cottage designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Here is a short video of the Headlands Beach State Park, on the shores of Lake Erie in Mentor, Ohio. It was a very windy day, to the point that it almost knocked me over a few times.
Besides the beach, which is about a mile long, you can see the Fairport Harbor west breakwall lighthouse, and the Headlands Dunes Nature Preserve.

Brunet Island State Park
This island park near Cornell, WI is at the confluence of the Chippewa and Fisher rivers in northwest Wisconsin. It's just a short 30 minute drive from Chippewa Falls. The river area has many backwaters for paddling adventures. A trail head for the Ice Age National Scenic Trail is across the river. The Old Abe bicycle trail begins at the park, travels down river and ends 20 miles away at Lake Wissota State Park. The park has an additional 8 miles of hiking trails and 5 miles of cross country ski trails. Many of the 69 campsites have views of the water. 24 campsites have electricity and are clustered near the showers. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the log shelter in 1938 and the park was dedicated in 1940.

Blue Mound State Park
The Winnebago Indians called this highest point in southern Wisconsin "Weehaukaja", meaning "a high place with a wonderful view." There are two 40 ft. observation towers offering a commanding view in all directions. At 1,716 feet above sea level, you will have clear views of the state capitol in Madison, 25 miles away. The park has the only heated swimming pool in the Wisconsin park system. The campground is open year round, has 77 sites (16 with electricity), and a rustic accessible cabin. This 1,100 acre park has three trails designated as hiking-only. The park has 6 miles of off-road bicycle trails. Access is also provided to the 40-mile Military Ridge State Trail that runs from Governor Dodge State Park, through Blue Mound State Park and on to Madison. Slideshow by John Wanserski.
